Chapter 13
Jazz was sitting on Black’s porch. She didn’t want to go back home. Her uncle was always her rock up until she stopped talking to him. She still had some of the money he gave her to bury Jaloni left over, and was planning on getting an apartment for herself. With baby Jaloni gone, it was only her, so she didn’t need much space. Black agreed to help her search for the right apartment but also told her she had to get a job to pay her own bills.
“Yo Jazz, your uncle said it’s going to be a minute before you all can leave. He’s waiting on one of his workers to come by,” Beast Mode announced walking on the porch.
“Damn, ok,” Jazz huffed.
She had a lot on her mind. It wasn’t enough that she loses her son but now she was faced with the dilemma of getting a job with no work experience. It was like a bright idea hit her and she jumped up running into the house.
“Girl, what the hell wrong with you?” Beast Mode hollered in position to pull out his .9mm.
“Oh nothing, I just need to talk with my uncle before his worker gets here,” Jazz shrugged.
“Man, I thought somebody was after you or something.” Beast Mode relaxed a little.
“My bad,” Jazz laughed.
“That shit ain’t funny. Your lil’ ass almost got shot with that bullshit. Did you lock that door?” Beast Mode asked.
“Nawl, it wasn’t locked in the first place,” Jazz replied.
“That’s ‘cause your lil’ ass insisted on sitting out there. Go lock that damn door,” Beast Mode barked.
“Ok geez, you don’t have to get all snippy about it,” Jazz smiled still thinking it’s a game.
She walked slowly to go lock the door just to mess with Beast Mode. She could see his facial expression changing with every step. Once the door was locked, she turned on her heels only to bump right into Beast Mode.
“What the hell?” Jazz hopped back.
“See, while you were playing with me you never heard me move up behind you. In this here game, you got to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Just like I snuck up on you, anybody could have snuck up in here on us. Don’t let that shit happen again. A simple mistake like that could have gotten all of us killed,” Beast Mode schooled.
Jazz was amazed at the lesson she had just learned. Soaking it all in, she now knew she wanted to know everything it was to learn about the game. “Can I go in to see my uncle now?”
“Hold on, let me check,” Beast Mode replied dryly.
He felt Jazz was childish and needed to grow up. He walked into Black’s office and closed the door behind him.
“Yo boss man, your niece wants to see you man, but before she comes in here I got to put this bug in your ear,” Beast Mode babbled.
“I really don’t have time to be fucked up with her right now. Them young niggas was fighting out on the block earlier and I need to deal with that shit,” Black expressed.
